Tim Parsons
Owner, Curringa Farm
Tim (and his wife Jane) are 6th generation Tasmania farmers. Located in Hamilton, Curinga Farm boasts deluxe farmstay accommodation, an array of tours, and a cafe/shop.
Curringa Farm is 750 acres and runs up to 3000 sheep for meat and wool. Crops are grown for seed and pharmaceutical medicine. 12% of the farm is under conservation and includes forest areas which are home to native birds, plants, and animals.
Over more than three decades Tim has honed his skills and grown the farmstay business his mother pioneered in the early 1980s at Hamilton, north-west of Hobart.
Tim is the Chair (Supplier Representative) of Australian Tourism Export Council, and a previous Director of the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania and Destination Southern Tasmania. Tim has also recently been selected as a Co-Chair, Global Agritourism Network Australia/New Zealand region.
Tim was the inaugural chair of the Rivers Run Tourism Association, which is now known as Derwent Valley Tourism Group and says he has always relished the opportunity to network and engage in local and regional tourism associations.
Tim brings a focus on international access and helping to rebuild the inbound tourism market, which has suffered massive hardships, border issues and trade opportunities over recent years.
Tim will be speaking at the Conversations in the City stream ‘Agritourism – Standing Out’.
Tim will be one of the case study speakers, talking about the evolution of Curringa Farm, its importance to the region for both international and domestic tourism. Tim has recently been nominated as Co-Chair, Global Agritourism Network, Australia/New Zealand.
Curringa Farm has just won a World Agritourism Award.
