Matt and Ruth farmed their idyllic plot in East Sassafras with Matt’s parents, but when a large contract pulled their interests, they did some research and branched out into growing celeriac, a vegetable often used in fancy restaurants but underutilised in the home kitchen.
Elphin Grove is still a family operation; during the late summer the Youngs harvest sweet corn, and it’s all hands on deck for the lambing season in late winter and early spring too.
